This weekend, Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd June, will see the opening races of SmarTrack Series Elite, as the new for 2019 race-series visits the renowned Silverstone circuit, in Northamptonshire.
Taking to the grid for the opening round of the Series will be former British Touring Car racer, and Team boss, turned Corbeau seats Managing Director – Vic Lee.
Vic track tested one of the 600bhp Series Elite Jaguar Project 8 race cars at the recent demonstration event at Brands Hatch and immediately knew he wanted to race again.
“Thirty-one years have passed since I raced competitively in a Grp A Toyota supra and BMW M3”, commented Vic, “motorsport is in my blood, even today Corbeau Seats keeps me at the heart of the sport as does my driver management involvement.
“I never thought I would have the opportunity to get back behind the wheel, this all changed after being invited to test the Series Elite Jaguar by [Series founder] Graeme Glew. After a few laps I was hooked, the car gave me the buzz I needed so now let’s see if I can meet my expectations.
“I certainly qualify regarding the age entry level now let’s see if I have the qualifying and race pace required. OMG what have I let myself in for.”
The opening round of SmarTrack Series Elite will take place around Silverstone’s ‘National’ layout – the same configuration famously used by the British Touring Car and Superbike Championships. As it’s the first time our Project 8’s have raced, and here at SIlverstone, there will be plenty of bragging rights on offer, with names going down in history as winner of the first ever Series Elite race, and lap records to be set, as the Jaguars compete together for the first time.
The format of the race weekend includes one qualifying session, on Saturday, with two races on Sunday. The first of which is twenty minutes in duration, while the second will be thirty minutes long.
SmarTrack Series Elite founder, Graeme Glew added; “ We’re making steady progress, and as with any new one-make series we are breaking new ground. We still have cars in build and SVO have done us proud with these fabulous Project 8 cars. We may only have a handful of cars on the grid at Silverstone but I’m confident by the time we reach Portimao in October we will have a healthy grid.”
